"The Greatest Album Covers That Never Were"
Track 16 Gallery, Santa Monica, CA Oct 11 - Nov 15, 2003
Album cover art may never show up in bookstores and galleries over and
over, but Track 16 Gallery breathed new life into the genre this fall
with The Greatest Album Covers That Never Were. Inaugurated at the Rock
and Roll hall of Fame in June 2003, the exhibition's premise bridged the
gap between fantasy and reality, play and work. One hundred lucky graphic
and fine artists got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to test their visual
mettle by creatings no-rules album cover art. Choosing their favorite
musical artists to honor, the artists reworked music's visual history
and, in some cases, made it look a whole lot better.
